Moto Cross rider airlifted

A RIDER competing in a moto-cross event has been airlifted after breaking his leg in an event in Shropshire.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Redwood Lane in Twitchen, near Craven Arms, at about 3.55pm yesterday (Sunday).

A rapid response vehicle, an ambulance and the County Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "The 21-year-old who comes from a village between Newport and Market Drayton had just gone over a jump when he landed awkwardly.

"Witnesses said that he took the full force in his leg. The rider had a badly broken and dislocated leg. Initial care was provided by a first aider at the event.

"The man was immobilised before being airlifted to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further treatment."
